Hi Teri,

I always enjoy reading your posts. Your tatting and beadwork (and pattern diagrams) are mind-boggling. With the black background of your blog, it's almost like traveling through the universe and gazing at wondrous nebulas and galaxies!

Also - back on earth, in a time warp - there are the vintage magazines, which you are taking time to post. I can't imagine where you have found all of these. This one by Anna Valeire got my attention because it appears that in the "2 shuttles" patterns, she used the second shuttle as a ball to make chains, so there really is no need to have two shuttles. The patterns don't mention the word "chains", as far as I can tell.

I noticed this because I recognized The Clover Point Edge,
as I am working on a similar pattern right now (seriously, it's sitting right next to me), and I was wondering if it was the same pattern (it isn't precisely), and then I wondered why the instructions said 2 shuttles, as I didn't see a need for two. Then I realized there was no mention of 'chains'.

Do you know the date of this publication? All these vintage patterns fascinate me. They really took off with their designs once they figured out the chain!

I also noted your statement about your wedding ring! I know that it can be exhilarating to lose weight, but you sure did it the hard way! I think you look great in the latest photo with the cross necklace.

These booklets had no publication dates and it was not a requirement to post the year with the copyright notice back in the days. Probably late 20's or early 30's. None of the Valeire publications carry a date.

That is curious the mention of two shuttles when all that was actually needed was the one. I'm not sure the purpose as there were no shuttle adverts associated with this booklet. Your guess is as good as mine...

I'm very happy to be able to wear my ring again. I was going to have it re-sized and glad I did not.

I could use a few days in the sun but I look pretty good considering. PTL!

I thought about the second shuttle for more than two seconds and it dawned on me that the ball thread was probably put on a second shuttle to contain the excess thread. When left on the ball there are all kinds of problems that can arise. This could have been the reasoning behind the second shuttle...

Hi Teri,
Thanks for posting such interesting information on your blog - there is always something that catches my attention.

This time, I was snagged by the Sweet Pea Edging. I think I am going to give it a try!
